If you’ve never heard of Kiva, it’s a great way for people to connect and loan money, in amounts as low as $25, to small businesses in the developing world. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates from the business you’ve sponsored. As loans are repaid, you get your loan money back, to hopefully loan to another deserving business.

I recently bought an old G3 ibook off of ebay as a backup if my other laptop fails. It was very cheap, under $200, but no airport card. I really wanted one of those nice usb wi-fi adapters, but most I found didn’t support OSX. Well, in case you are every looking, I found one - Asus/Addlogix WL-167g USB 2.0 Wireless WLAN Ad. You might be able to find one of ebay cheaper.

Emma Alvarez(to the right) has posted a nice list of 50 open source applications for Ubuntu. If you don’t know what Ubuntu is, it’s an open source Operating System that is both user friendly and pleasing to the eye. It’s nice to see that applications for Ubuntu are increasing every day. Although I’ve only used it a couple of times, it was easy to use, but I found the apps for it lacking. That was quite a long time ago. I may have to give Ubuntu another shot.

Software that allows you to control your mobile from a web browser sounds super duper cool. Imagine being able to add contacts and add events to your calendar from your laptop. However, initial reviews of Noka’s PC Phone software, which does just that, are pretty negative. However their is hope that once they work out the kinks(its in beta), remotely controlling your mobile may just work out in the end.
