MySpace Fashion Launches 2

MySpace.com/fashion has launched and they were actually able to make it look unlike the crappy design that makes up the rest of Myspace.

It looks like MySpace Fashion features designer profiles, videos, friends of fashion, comments and other fashion related stories. The background wallpaper is actually pretty nice and the logo is fairly original.

Web Development Cheat Sheet 1

I ran across the Ultimate Web Development Cheat Sheet Guide this morning on Digg. I wouldn’t say it is the ultimate guide, but it surely has all of the cheat sheets for the usual suspects. You’ll find guides to HTML, CSS and Javascript. It’s nice to have guides like these handy when you get stuck with a problem. I highly recommend printing out one of each guide and keeping it handy by your computer.

Ruby on Rails Full Steam Ahead 0

Ruby on Rails has just passed the three year mark. And, Ruby on Rails continues to impress, as popular sites such as Twitter continue to use it, as their user base grows. Ruby on Rails is evidently scalable and can take on some of the big traffic that the web can throw at a site. Plus the developer base is growing, and help is only a Ruby Wiki away from solving all but maybe your trickiest problems, which of course can be addressed in the Ruby community.

Popular Sites using Ruby on Rails:

  • Twitter - The microblog that has become a powerhouse in social networking.
  • Basecamp - One of the best project management apps out there, and personally used by me.
  • Shopify - Ecommerce tool that builds complete websites allowing you to sell products.
  • Strongspace - Secure file storage and hosting. Proves the security of Ruby on Rails.
  • Crazy Egg - Get a clear picture of where your visitors are coming from and what they are doing on your website.

Major Wordpress Tool List 2

I love lists. Such as top 10 Ruby Tutorials or top 10 hottest chicks of the 80’s. However talk about getting out of hand. Mashable, notorious for long lists, has added a list of 300+ Tools for Running Your WordPress Blog to their site. Don’t get me wrong, that is very cool of them. And there are tons of great tools that are going to improve my blogging lifestyle. But come on! I have work to do today! And I really want to go through this list immediately.

Mashable, you are directly responsible for me not getting anything done this morning. : )

Watch for Site Fraud 4

Website sales are a big business on the internet. A high profile website with a good Google Page Rank with traffic and revenue to boot can bring in top dollar for the seller. Most sites sell for around one years revenue, however a unique site with lots of organic traffic can sell high on reputation alone.

Now it’s very tempting to jump into the established site waters. The site is already up, search engine optimization has been done, dedicated readers, and so on. However there are sharks in the water. There are sites with PR4 or 5 that kick the bucket due to the owner giving up on the site and letting the domain expire. Along comes someone else who buys the domain, throws a quick site up there and flips the site for a tidy profit. The owner discovers to their horror that they have earned a PR0 the next time Google updates it’s page rank on sites.

You have to be careful out there. Make sure you research sites you are interested in. Ask for traffic and revenue stats for the past 12 months. Also use a site like  siteFraud.com to check on whois and the real page rank of sites. Site can be redirected to higher page rank sites to inflate PR of the site for sale.

When you are ready, check websites for sale at Sitepoint.com, Digital Point, and Sedo.
